Networking PCs together improves efficiency by allowing users to share information along with peripheral devices like printers. Here are some examples of network applications that improve productivity:
Share Internet Access
With a network, users can simultaniously share a connection to the Internet using one line and one Internet account. Networks allow sharing of anytype of Internet connection: 56K modem, ISDN, ADSL or cable.
Share Printers
One or more printers can be shared across users on a network. This takes away the need to copy files to another PC so that they can be printed.
E-mail
A network is needed so that e-mail messages can be transferred between PCs in an office or a home. Networks that are connected to the Internet can also be used to exchange e-mail messages over the Internet.
Share Files
A network makes it easy to share files.
There are three ways of doing this:
By attaching a file to an e-mail message and sending it to another user;
By allowing users to have access to folders on other PCs.
Folders can be password protected for security.
By viewing and updating database records across a network.
This also includes some accounting software and diary software.
Wireless
Wireless networks connect any computer user (laptop or desktop) to the company network without the need for cabling. In addition, you can move a laptop to a meeting room and remain connected providing you are still within range. |
